Monash Games

In support of Ronald McDonald House Monash

Come & Try Informal Sports Day

The Monash Games Come & Try Informal Sports Day drew in students that came to play some fun and friendly games at the Monash Sport Recreation Hall. Some students joined in purely for a kick and a laugh whereas the Informal Sports Day also drew players in preparation of the staff challenge coming up on Friday. In particular, netball and volleyball players from Civil Engineering came in to train for the staff challenge on Friday. Watch out staff, these guys will be ready!

The afternoon started off with some passing drills set up by the TeamMONASH staff in order to get the players warmed up for some matches. They were then led into some netball drills where passing proved to be more of a strong suit than shooting. At the end of the day, shooting is what gains the points and therefore, shooting drills were deemed necessary.

Throughout the drills and games, students were informally trickling in to join in the fun and have a go at some games. As well as netball, basketball layups and volleyball drills were also conducted in order to practice some of the key skills of each game. An small, exciting 4 vs. 4 basketball game was held and things got a bit frantic as the level of intensity increased and competitive juices started to flow!

In the coming days, sports competitions will be held at Monash Sport consisting of mixed netball, futsal and dodgeball on Wednesday 17 July, women's netball and basketball on Thursday 18 July and finally the highly anticipated staff challenge including basketball, futsal, mixed netball and volleyball on Friday 19 July. Teams will be battling it out on the courts to see be the ultimate champion for each sport. Finals will be held each afternoon for the games.

The games are in support of the Ronald McDonald House Monash which raises money for families of seriously ill children who are treated at the local, Monash Children's Hospital. Come on by and support the great cause by cheering on the teams on Wednesday and Thursday and Friday, come and see the competition unfold between the staff and students! A BBQ will be held between 12 - 2pm each day so come on over to Monash Sport for some friendly competition and a bite to eat.
